Dipping Bird

Remember these birds? I am a nostalgic person. Things that remind me of my childhood I just love. I have been trying to find these birds but hadn't had any luck. So I turned to the web and I found them. These dipping birds are the coolest.
Sunday I went out with my mom and sisters. Went to a place called Waterloo. It was a gift shop/garden shop. I found a bubble light that was a night light that had Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer on it. Every Christmas time for as long as I can remember they have Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer on t.v. It's such a cheesy movie but it brings warm memories with it. Anyway mom bought me the night light. It's now illuminating the bathroom quite nicely. Thanks mom!
Other things I like are the old lunch boxes we used to use with the thermoses in them as well as the old book bags that hung on your one shoulder. I love the Dick and Jane books too.
For my first three years of school. I went to a one room school house in Gordonville. We used to have to use out houses for bathrooms. I don't love or miss those.

more ham

I decided to look up this ham bone song on the web. I have no idea how I came to sing that song every time the word ham is mentioned. But it always pops in my head. Anyway found some stuff about it and turns out that it's not ham bone but instead it's hambone all one word and it's a dance. It's a style of dance that involves stomping as well as slapping and patting the arms, legs, chest, and cheeks. It is related to Clogging and the Jig. Apparently you say these lyrics to this hambone beat. Here's some of the words.

Hambone, Hambone
where you been?
"Round the corner
And back agin"
Hambone Hambone,
where's your wife?
"In the kitchen cookin rice!"

So there ya have it. Now have you ever heard? "Moons over my hammy" That's a breakfast you can order at Denny's. =) Okay no more about ham.

Ham

Thanks for the updates Lisa, Karla, and Gina on your shopping experiences it was fun to here about them. I did not venture out today cause I pretty much figured it would be more of the same thing I experienced this morning. Uhh no thanks.
So instead of more shopping experiences to talk about here's some pictures of our gathering with Edwin's family Thursday. That's Edwin's brother there with the ham. I love this pic. He made the ham and is hamming it up with it. That reminds me of a song I love to sing.........ham bone ham bone where ya been.........The next pic is some of the family playing a game called LCR.
Ever heard of it? Now we are watching our grandkids overnight it will be the first time for Jazelyn. I hope she sleeps for us.

3:00 a.m.

Okay it's 3 a.m. and I'm blogging what's up with that? Well I'll tell you what's up with that. I decided to meet my oldest sister and her daughters and daughter-in law for the big midnight sale at Rockvale. I'm thinking ah there probably won't be a crazy amount of people there it'll be fun to check out the shopping situation I might get some good bargains. So I'm down at the light on 30 just past Walmart and the traffic isn't moving to good and I'm thinking hmm is there an accident or what? Nope, no accident it's just crazy traffic from all the people who think ah there won't be a lot of people out tonight. They were all waiting in line to go to Tanger and Rockvale. It was only like 12:15 when I pull in to Rockvale and there is like hardly no where to park. I'm thinking what is going on here. Found a place to park met my family and did some shopping. Didn't buy a thing. I could feel the moment I walked into the first store that I wasn't going to find anything I wanted to buy that night. The lines were like I've never seen. I did have a mini Crossway reunion. I ran into 4 groups of people right from the git go from church. You all crazy. Anyway I called it a morning and headed home around 2:45a.m.

agents rammed........

My husband came across this story in the "Past Era" section of the paper the other day. This story happened about 75 years ago not far from us. Things haven't changed to much. Life on the "Pike" is always interesting. Why just last night we had people arrested in front of our house.
And just last week I heard another big bang another car accident. Folks be careful as you drive our way it can be dangerous out there.

Thanksgiving early

Sunday we celebrated Thanksgiving with my side of the family. There was 40 some relatives that came. That's all of us but 2. It was so fun to have so many family come. We had a great day.
My oldest sister Jane and her husband Paul hosted the event. They have the perfect room for it a very long sun room. But I told my sister she better add on cause we just fit in that room this time. Janie always does a wonderful job of making us all feel at home and providing us with a great meal. It's always a party at Janie's house. We started the day off with having to only watch the Steelers since the Eagles weren't on t.v. Turned out though that the Steelers game was the only game worth watching anyway. But that's the other story I posted earlier. I didn't do very good with taking pictures I brought my camera but forgot to take pictures early on. But here the kids are having a rousing game of Monopoly. Oh these kids love to make money. Going to have to keep my eye on that. =) A fun time was had by all. I love being with my family every one of them.

Eagles & Manheim Township

McNabb is out the rest of the year with a torn ACL knee injury. As a fan it can take the life right out of ya. But alas there is more to life then the Eagles. So life goes on. It will be interesting to see who Reid goes with to quarterback. Will it be Garcia or Feeley? I'm thinking I'd like to see Feeley come in and play and see if he can bring back some of the magic that he gave us last time McNabb was out. Garcia hasn't shown us much the few times he has played. So I say give Feeley the ball.

Now on to other sports. Manheim Township lost the State Championship game. It wasn't a real fun game to watch usually Township plays with real finesse. They have great footwork and pass the ball around well. But this night M.T. just didn't play there game. The other team had good speed but played rather dirty at times. Early on one of there star players got a red card and got thrown out of the game for roughing up an M.T. player. So anyway not sure what was going on with MT but there was some moments of good play but they just didn't last. As always though Max Kinderwater played a nice game. He handles the ball so well. But being the second best in the state is not to shabby. So congratulations to Manheim Township for a great year!

She's a beauty!

I've gone to long without showing you how cute our grandaughter is. The first picture was soon after she was born and the second pic is how she looks now. She is about 3 and a half months old. She's really starting to smile at us a lot. In the second picture I'm offering up to her all my wisdom. Yeah that didn't take long. Ha! =)

Would you pray?

Some time back my husband who is a carpet installer was developing fluid on his knee. It was recuring quite often and got to the point where he needed to have surgery. That was Aug. 25th. He has not been back to work full-time since then. Edwin was at the doctor yesterday and he said another month off of work. That will be 3 months! Edwin's knee is still sore and slightly swollen. He's been going to physical therapy 2 x's a week. His job has been generous to him in allowing him to come to work part-time and do jobs that don't require him to use his knee plus he does get workman's compensation. God is providing for us and we are grateful. But it sure would be nice for Edwin to get back to normal. So if you would could you pray for him for the healing of his knee. We would appreciate it so much. Thank you. =)

Township heading for State finals!

Manheim Township won there game on Tuesday night 2-1. Max Kinderwater had a nice goal.
Finally got to see him score although it was on T.V. on the news. Now they will play Sat. night at Hershey Stadium. Please pray for Max. He hurt his ankle during the last minute of the game.
I'm waiting to here back from Joanne to see how he is doing. I know Eric said he couldn't put his weight on it last night. I'm hoping and praying he can play for the State Championship.

Do Nothing Club

That's right "Do Nothing Club". My parents belong to this club. My dad has been going to it since around 1957 and my mom joined in sometime later. So what is this club? Local folks from the area gather together most mornings except Sundays around 9:00a.m. for coffee at a local resturant and shoot the breeze. The conversation can range from local goings on, politics, sports you name it they talk about it. There's lots of laughter and some seriousness. This morning I went to the "Do nothing club" cause it was time to celebrate my Dad's birthday which is today and Mom's birthday which was the 8th of this month and throw in there too there anniversary which was the 12th. When this time rolls around my parents pay for everyone of there friends that come to "The Club" that morning there breakfast. It used to be whenever a new person would come into the resturant when it was a club members birthday everyone would have to sing Happy Birthday. Now they kind of toned that down a little bit. But Happy Birthday was sung to my parents at least 3 times when I was there.
Isn't that nice. It's always fun. There was at least 30 people there when I left. Also when I was leaving the waitresses were bringing out a huge cake. Sorry I had to miss that. But duty called and I had to get to work. My parents are kind and generous people. I love them.

A movie

Okay so tonight we were invited to Dale and Carol Landis's to watch a movie along with Sarah R.
It was called "Nacho Libre". To me this movie was sooo funny. Along the same lines of funny as "Napoleon Dynamite". Now this humor isn't for all. Some would think it's stupid. But I'm not one of those people. I will buy this movie. Thanks Landis's. A good time was had by all.

raking leaves

Today Edwin was watching Elijah for a bit. Edwin is so good with him. They are becoming great buddies. Elijah was helping Edwin with a lot of projects around the house and one of them was raking leaves. So here is some really cute pictures of the event. Elijah worked hard. He was running back and forth with arm load after arm load and loving every minute of it. This boy is such a joy.

Question for you?

Do you know where the longest covered bridge in the world is? Well it's in New Brunswick, Canada of course, in a town called Hartland. It's 1282 ft. long. My daughter Bri had to do a project for school and she made a replica of this bridge with her dad's help. It turned out very nice and off she went with it to school this morning. I'm disappointed cause I forgot to take a picture of it before she left.
Rico is going to work today at Water Street Rescue Mission. At his school his class gets to go different places for work experience. I think it's pretty cool. Rico also helps out sometimes in the school cafeteria. He helps move tables and chairs so the custodians can clean.
One last thing I don't think I ever said who won the last game MT played. Township won 1-0.
Not sure when they play next. But they are undefeated this whole year. That's something.

Edwin's Birthday

Today the kids had off from school. It was nice we could all be together to do some running around for Edwin. We got a few gifts and I made my man some steak. I don't usually buy steak because honestly it's expensive and I never feel like I can do it justice. It's not usually nice and juicy like in a resturant and guess what today was no exception. It was alright though it wasn't to bad. If anyone has any tips for making steak let me know. Everyone seemed to appreciate the steak though. So here's a picture of Edwin with Bri breaking in one of his gifts. A back massager. He does look like he's enjoying doesn't he? I think we'll all be wanting many turns with it.

Districts

Saturday night we traveled up to Hershey to watch Max and the rest of the Township soccer team compete for the District Title. We bundled up nice and warm each of us armed with our own blanket. It was a fun and exciting game with Township taking the prize 4-1. Now it's on to States. MT will play Tuesday night at Hershey again at 7:30p.m.

recipe

Here's a recipe I got from a co-worker. This Trifle is sooooo good and so easy to make but yet looks really great. It would be a good dessert for Thanksgiving.

Pumpkin Cream Trifle
Prep: 30 min. Bake:45 min.

1 pk 181/2 ounces spice cake mix
1 pk 3.4 ounces instant vanilla pudding mix
1 C canned pumpkin
1/2 C water
1/2 C vegetable oil
3 eggs
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
2 C cold milk
2 pks 3.4 ounces each instant cheesecake pudding mix
2 C whipped topping
1 C chopped pecans, toasted
3/4 C English toffee bits or almond brickle chips

In a large mixing bowl, combine the first eight ingredients. Transfer to a greased 13 by 9 baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 min. or until a tooth pick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
In a large bowl, whisk the milk and pudding mixes for 2 minutes. Let stand for 2 minutes or until soft-set. Fold in the whipped topping.
Cut cake into 1 in. cubes. In a 3 qt. glass serving bowl or trifle bowl, layer a third of the cake cubes, pudding mixture, pecans and toffee bits. Repeat layers twice. Refrigerate until serving. Yield: 15-20 servings.

Happenings

My two youngest girls Bella and Bri ages 10 & 11 tried out for basketball tonight. They both came home very excited that they made there respective teams. Nice of the coaches to let them know right away what teams they made. We're looking forward to watching them play.
Today Rico went to Harrisburg to the Capital. He went with his classmates from school. They all went with a petition to help a 19 year old mentally handicapped girl from school who also as C.P. to get financial help for assisted living. We watched the news and we saw a peak of Rico.
Here is the picture I took of Rico on the t.v. on the right bottom corner.
Another news maker is Max Kinderwater, son of some of our closest friends. He plays on his schools soccer team and they are doing very well and are in the semi-finals for Districts. Myself and Noah went to see him play on Thursday night. Lot of fun. The thing about Max is the dude has been pictured in the paper probably at least 4 times this month alone. And once again he was in todays paper. Great picture!
Congratulations to the Manheim Township soccer team. They play again at the Hershey Stadium this Saturday night at 8:00p.m.
