the picnic

For the second year in a row the first Sunday after the 4th of July my mom's side of the family and her sisters side of the family get together for a baseball picnic.
Our families grew up beside each other as kids and we spent a lot of time at the ball field down the road from where I lived. My Aunt provides the main part of the meal and we all bring a side dish. We have some rousing games of ball and eat throughout the day ending up with a hot dog roast at night. It's a great time reliving our child hood and teaching our kids the fun of playing ball together. We all enjoy it. Even though it was a hot day there was a great breeze throughout the day and my Aunt and Uncle have a great shade tree in the back to sit under. Edwin did a funny thing. Way back in the day of the beginning of what is now Crossway church. We used to have a church baseball team with uniforms and everything. I used to be the score keeper. It was a lot of fun watching our guys play. Well, my hubby can still fit in his uniform and he came out to play with it on. We all had a great laugh over that. It was a little bit tighter around the belly but other then that he was looking good. Funniest and most surprising moment of the day was when the kids had a water battle fight. In the midst of it my Aunt Fannie when inside the house and came out with her personal super soaker water gun and started blasting the kids including her own sons who were just sitting minding there own business. It was so funny and out of character. Great memories.

I love reading about all of your wonderful extended family traditions. It is great knowing that you are passing these traditions along to your kids, and their kids to come!

Go Aunt Fannie! I can just imagine her temptation to soak her boys overcoming her! Way to go Edwin in the church baseball uniform. You guys are a riot. Gina
